Cambridge communications consultancy for messaging, content and staff training

About Sookio

Sookio is a communications consultancy at St John's Innovation Centre on Cowley Road, Milton, on the northern edge of Cambridge. Sue Keogh founded it in 2008 and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and the Royal Society of Arts. She came from about ten years in broadcast and online media, producing for BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4, managing ITV.com websites, editing homepages for Yahoo and AOL, and training staff at the Government Digital Service when GOV.UK launched. Sookio worked as a digital marketing agency for 16 years. In 2024 it became a strategic communications consultancy.

Its services now fall into audits, brand storytelling, consultancy, strategy and training, which it groups as Untangle, Strategise and Upskill. For healthcare clients it offers fractional CMO support and messaging frameworks for patients, clinicians and investors. Its healthcare work also covers marketing audits, team mentoring, and video, animation, podcast, copy and social content that follows NHS Digital content guidelines. SEO is not on its service list. A dental practice would come to Sookio for clearer patient-facing copy, practice messaging and staff writing skills. Google Business Profile work or technical SEO would need another provider.

Its healthcare clients include the East of England Cancer Alliance, Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Care UK, the British Heart Foundation, the Alzheimer's Society, St Francis Hospice and the NHS Integrated Care Board for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. It has also worked with the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine. Its short case summaries cover an NHS 111 awareness campaign meant to ease pressure on A&E, a festive Covid campaign for Huntingdonshire District Council and the Rarely Heard podcast for Beacon for Rare Diseases. No dental clients or measured results are published.

Training prices are published, which is unusual. A half-day course for up to ten people costs 2,325 pounds and a full day costs 2,975 pounds, plus VAT and travel. Ninety-minute lunchtime sessions cost 99 pounds per person, with a minimum of five, and a quarterly programme of four sessions gets 20 percent off. Online and in-person sessions cost the same. Each includes a worksheet, a tips sheet and a follow-up session about a week later. Topics include LinkedIn, writing for the web and brand messaging workshops for leadership teams.

Sookio won two silver awards at the first Cambridgeshire Digital Awards in 2015 and Gold for Service Excellence at the 2022 SME Cambridgeshire Business Awards. Keogh won silver for Business Person of the Year in 2020 and 2022. Her podcast, Communication Untangled, reached the finals of the 2025 National Podcast Awards. Sookio is rated 4.6 on Google from 20 reviews, and reviewers mention frank but friendly advice, strong copy and well-run training.
