Most people don’t spend long choosing a dentist. They search on their phone, look at the map, check a couple of reviews and call whoever looks decent. If your practice isn’t in those first few results, you’re probably not getting that call.
Getting there takes more work than it used to. In the big cities there can be 30 or 40 clinics within a few kilometres of each other, all going after the same searches. Google is also stricter with health websites than with most other businesses, so thin content and cheap backlinks don’t get you far. And AHPRA’s rules on testimonials and advertising mean a lot of the usual marketing tricks are off the table for dentists.
Plenty of practice owners try to handle SEO themselves for a while, then realise they’d rather spend their time treating patients. Hiring an agency makes sense, but it’s easy to get burned. Some agencies know dental inside out. Others use the same approach for dentists that they use for plumbers and car dealers, send you a monthly report you can’t make sense of, and keep charging you whether the phone rings or not.
So we looked into the agencies that work with Australian dental clinics and picked out the ones worth talking to. We checked how many dental clients they’ve had, what kind of results they can show, how clear they are about pricing, and what their clients say about them. Here’s what we found.
Dental SEO Market Statistics: Australia
- Australia had 20,141 registered dentists in 2024, which works out to 62.1 full-time equivalent dentists per 100,000 people (AIHW, Oral Health and Dental Care in Australia).
- There are 20,919 dental services businesses in Australia in 2026, up 3.1% on 2025, and the number has grown by an average of 3.7% a year since 2021 (IBISWorld).
- The Australian dental services industry was worth $14.5 billion in 2025, growing 4.3% on the year before (IBISWorld).
- NSW, Victoria and Queensland are home to roughly 73% of all registered dental practitioners, with NSW alone holding 29.2% (Dental Board of Australia registrant data, 2019).
- The ACT has the most private-sector dentists at 54.4 FTE per 100,000 people, while the Northern Territory has the fewest at 26.7, about half the ACT rate (AIHW, 2024).
- Just over half of Australians aged 15+ (54%) saw a dental professional in 2024-25, but 25% who needed one delayed or skipped a visit, and 16% said cost was the reason (ABS Patient Experiences 2024-25).
- Google held 88.04% of Australian search in June 2026, down from 93.67% in August 2024, as Bing grew to around 9% (Statcounter via SearchScope).
- Most Australian dental and medical clinics pay A$1,500 to A$2,500 a month for core SEO, with competitive city campaigns running up to A$5,000 a month (Rankingeek, 2026).
- Google Ads clicks on dental keywords in Australia cost roughly A$10 to A$30 each, which is why many practices use SEO to bring down their cost per new patient over time (Rankingeek, 2026).
- Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have the largest concentration of dedicated dental SEO agencies, matching the states with the most dental practices (DentalSEOAgencies.com research).

How We Score Each Agency
We checked each one’s dental client work, public reviews, published results and terms before adding it, then read every client testimonial we could find. Only agencies that pass these checks are listed, so every DSA Score starts at 80. The other 20 depend on how many of the 100 points below each agency earns: DSA Score = 80 + points earned ÷ 5.
- Profile (up to 80 points). Five factors scored out of 20 each, then scaled to 80:
- Client reviews: a verified rating on Google, Clutch, G2, UpCity, Trustpilot or a similar platform
- Experience: years in business, a named founder or leader, and a dental or healthcare focus
- Client portfolio: how many dental clients the agency names publicly
- Published results: case studies with real figures, such as traffic, leads or revenue
- Transparency: published prices, clear contract terms, and a confirmed website and location
- Client feedback (up to 20 points). What clients actually say, from the testimonials we read on Google, independent review sites and the agency’s own website:
- Independent reviews (6): how many reviews we found that the agency doesn’t control
- Client satisfaction (8): how consistently clients praise the agency, adjusted so a handful of reviews can’t outscore a long track record
- Independent sources (4): how much of the feedback comes from Google and review sites rather than the agency’s own pages
- Dental clients (2): at least one review from a dental practice
- Verification. Client feedback points are reduced when reviews or agency details can’t be verified.
We summarise each client review in our own words and link to the original, so you can read it in full.
Price ranges are a guide based on published rates and typical fees for agencies of a similar profile. Always ask for a written quote.

Dental SEO in Australia: Frequently Asked Questions
How much should an Australian dental practice spend on SEO?
Most clinics pay around A$1,500 to A$2,500 a month for core SEO. Practices in competitive parts of Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, especially those targeting implants or aligners, can spend up to about A$5,000 a month. Very cheap offers often rely on thin content and poor-quality links, which don’t hold up well with Google on health sites.
Can I use patient testimonials on my dental website?
No. AHPRA’s advertising rules don’t allow testimonials about clinical care on your website or in your advertising, and that includes reposting them from Google. You can still respond to reviews and ask happy patients to leave them, but you can’t pull quotes about treatment outcomes onto your own pages.
What do Australians search for when looking for a dentist?
Mostly local and practical searches: “dentist near me,” “emergency dentist open Sunday,” or a suburb name with “dentist.” Many also search for health fund terms like “HICAPS” or “no gap check-up,” so it helps to mention which funds you work with and whether you offer gap-free cleans.
Is local SEO more important than ranking nationally?
For most practices, yes. Patients rarely travel far for a dentist, so being in the map results for your suburb and the ones around it matters more than ranking across the country. Clinics that offer specialised treatments, like full-arch implants or sleep dentistry, may want to target a wider area.
How do I know if my SEO agency is doing a good job?
Ask them to report on phone calls, booking form submissions and new patients, not just rankings. A good agency should also be able to show you the actual work done each month, such as pages added or improved and changes to your Google Business Profile. If the report is hard to understand, ask them to explain it.
